By now I hope you have heard that NOMA Atlanta is hosting the 2011 NOMA National Conference. The Convention theme will be “Architects as Visionaries” ‐ Through Imagination, Collaboration, Humanity & Triumph. This will be the second Conference to be held here in the ATL, the first being in 1991. The NOMA Atlanta conference planning committee is in the process of getting things organized and is planning some great events for what we hope will be one of the best conferences ever.

The Conference hotel will be the Hyatt Regency in downtown Atlanta which is in the process of going through a major renovation. Our conference will be one of the first to christen the newly renovated facility in the fall of 2011. The Hyatt Regency is Architect/Developer, John Portman’s first hotel designed around an atrium. If one looks closely around the hotel you can find elements that ended up as major features in some of his other later designed hotels. Perhaps we will create an architectural treasure hunt to see how observant everyone is.

Another interesting tidbit is that the number of minorities becoming registered architects here in
Georgia and the Atlanta Metropolitan area is outpacing all other areas of the country. We hope
everyone will come out and support NOMA Atlanta and its activities in the upcoming year as we march towards conference. We really want to showcase how great Atlanta and our NOMA Atlanta Chapter is.

Please mark your calendars for NOMAtlanta 2011, October, 20th ‐22nd , 2011.

I want to thank all you of who joined us at NOMA Social last August. Everyone had a great time on the tour and enjoyed the hospitality of Loews Hotel’s staff. I would like to thank Byran Houser , Atlanta Chapter’s Parliamentarian, for doing a great job in selecting the location. We Especially want thank the National Board for choosing our city to have the board meeting. I gained valuable information from the Board members I met and we shared ideas that about how we can run our chapters better and how we can help architects in this terrible economy. I little disappointed that the National Board Members weren’t able to get see the rest of the City. I guess they have to return to the City for the Convention in 2011 to get the full immersion. Atlanta will be waiting. We took photos at the event please enjoy. Thanks.
