Youth Design a Bridge Project

NOMA Social on February 15

NOMA Atlanta President is Competition Finalist:

We congratulate Jerome Martin (NOMA Atlanta President)  for winning  third place in the 48 Hour Competition sponsored by the AIA Atlanta Young Architects Forum. The winning team also included a recent architectural graduate of Southern Polytechnic University, Jereme Smith.  Together they developed an innovative design for a mobile cafe with a presentation style unparalleled.  Their entry was titled “The Floating Bean” which entailed an inflatable structure that provided shade, shelter and interest as onlookers are drawn from all directions by its whimsical shape.  This special acknowledgment was coupled with a copy of the book Thornton Dial in the 21st Century by Arnett, Cubbs and Metcalf.  The competition culminated in an evening reception at the Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) on Friday, January 13th  and wll continue to be on display along with other entires until Sunday, January 22nd.  You can also view the entries online at http://www.48hours.yafatlanta.org/.

The competition winners are listed as follows:

First Place

Kicked off the year with a Day of Service.

I want to thank all of you for participating in this year’s MLK Day of Service. I commend all of you who decided  not to relax on this day but  to use the time to do work for others.  This  year our service project was located at Price Middle School in Atlanta and all seemed to have a wonderful time. Our task was to prepare a space for activity for the students by cleaning a once abandoned space and painting stripes for hopscotch and four square courts. We had both young and old working  together to complete a space where the Price Middle School students will definitely enjoy. Mrs Marcia Brown of Hands on Atlanta told me that they had no idea how they where going to layout four square and hopscotch courts  but  when she heard that NOMA was getting involved, her  mind  was at ease.

Not only did we complete the job,but we were also able to build a relationship with Hands on Atlanta and Price Middles School.  There is talk of  doing future projects so stay tuned.

MLK DAY OF SERVICE CHANGE OF VENUE!!!

Renaissance Elementary School is overbooked with volunteers and Hands on Atlanta has asked us to switch and help out at:
Price Middle School on Monday, January 16th, from 9:00am – 1:00pm.

We apologize for any conflict this causes, but this change of venue will allow us to serve at a location where we are needed most.

This is a brief description of our project at Price Middle School:
During the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service volunteers will paint murals, work on craft projects with bird houses and pine cone bird feeders for kids, create college pennants to display on the walls, clean classrooms, build bookshelves, benches, a compost bin, sawhorses & container gardens.

Our Hands On Atlanta contact is Marcia Brown (cell 678.628.4366) in the event that you need additional information on this project.

This project site is located in south Atlanta and is wheelchair accessible.
Price Middle school: 1670 Weldon Bickers Drive SE, Atlanta, GA 30315
